MONOCHROME REMOVES THE NOISE
Mono Orbit Awards approaches photography through a focused editorial and curatorial perspective.
Each submission is considered in relation to the theme, the photographer’s individual point of view and the strength of the photograph as a complete visual statement.
We look beyond technical execution alone. Particular attention is given to intention, originality, visual clarity and the meaningful use of monochrome.
The relationship to the theme should be present within the photograph itself. A title or description may provide context, but should not be necessary to make the image relevant or compelling.
All eligible submissions are considered through one shared selection process. There are no separate photographic categories and no distinction between documentary and conceptual approaches.
Selected works are considered both as individual photographs and as part of the wider visual narrative of each edition.
SELECTION PROCESS
The work comes first.
Submissions are reviewed without regard to reputation, audience size or professional status.
From all eligible submissions, twelve photographers are selected to form THE ORBIT 12.
From THE ORBIT 12, three receive the MONO ORBIT AWARDS.
EDITORIAL AND CURATORIAL SELECTION
Eligible works are considered through the editorial and curatorial perspective of Mono Orbit Awards.
The selection may be conducted by members of the Mono Orbit Awards editorial team and may also include invited photographers, designers, editors, curators or other visual professionals.
The composition of the selection team may vary between editions.
The assessment considers the relationship to the theme and the built environment, photographic quality, originality, visual clarity and strength of interpretation.
AWARDS
First Prize, Second Prize and Third Prize are selected from the complete body of eligible work.
Honourable Mentions may also be awarded to photographs of particular merit.
The final selection is based on the strength of the work rather than reputation, professional status or social media presence.

Mono Orbit Awards is developed and selected through the editorial perspective of the Mono Orbit team.
