THEME 01 | EMISSION
What we build does not end at its surface. Every structure leaves a trace. EMISSION explores the visible and invisible traces produced by the environments we create. The theme may be approached literally or conceptually through energy, pollution, light, heat, waste, movement, production, density or other traces generated by human-made environments.
THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT
Architecture is only one possibility. Infrastructure. Industry. Construction. Transport. Energy systems. Public space. Human-shaped landscapes. We are interested in how photography observes the structures and systems around us - and what those environments reveal about the way we live.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We welcome documentary observation, conceptual interpretation and other photographic approaches. We are looking for photographs with intention, originality, visual clarity and a distinct point of view. The relationship to EMISSION should exist within the photograph itself. A title or description may provide context, but the image should remain compelling without explanation. Monochrome should function as part of the photographic language - strengthening structure, atmosphere and meaning rather than serving only as an effect.
ONE SHARED SELECTION
There are no separate documentary, conceptual or professional categories. Every eligible photograph is considered within one shared selection process. Each photograph is considered individually. Twelve photographers form THE ORBIT 12. Three receive the MONO ORBIT AWARDS.
YOUR RESPONSE
Submit up to four monochrome photographs responding to EMISSION. You may submit one, two, three or four works. Careful selection matters more than quantity. One theme. Up to four photographs. Your perspective.
