MONOCHROME REMOVES THE NOISE
01 - THE IDEA
A closed room is a space separated from the noise of the outside world.
No public voting. No competing opinions. No pressure to follow what is popular.
Only the photographs, the theme and the act of looking.
THE CLOSED ROOM represents the independent selection philosophy of MONO ORBIT AWARDS. It is not a physical room, but a principle of concentration, attention and individual judgement.
The intention is to create a quieter space in which photography can be considered on its own terms.
02 - THE SELECTION
For the first edition, EMISSION, every eligible submission is personally reviewed by POSTRH, founder and sole juror.
There are no external jurors, committee decisions or public votes.
Each photograph is considered individually within one shared selection process, without separate categories.
Documentary and conceptual approaches are considered together.
The process is deliberately independent. It reflects a singular photographic perspective rather than a collective consensus.
03 - WHAT MATTERS
The work comes first.
Selection is guided by the relationship to the edition's theme and the built environment, originality, photographic intention, visual clarity and the meaningful use of monochrome.
Technical execution matters, but it is not the only consideration.
A photograph should communicate something beyond its immediate appearance.
Titles and descriptions may provide context, but the photograph should remain compelling without relying entirely on explanation.
The photographer's reputation, professional status, audience size or social media presence do not determine the selection.
04 - THE FINAL SELECTION
From all eligible submissions, twelve photographers are selected to form THE ORBIT 12.
Three receive the MONO ORBIT AWARDS. The remaining nine are recognised as Selected.
Additional Honourable Mentions may be awarded.
The final selection represents a considered photographic response to the edition's theme and becomes part of the MONO ORBIT AWARDS editorial archive.
05 - INDEPENDENCE
THE CLOSED ROOM is built on a simple commitment: independent judgement.
The selection is based on photographic merit and independent judgement, free from external influence.
The responsibility for the first edition's final decisions rests with POSTRH.
The aim is not to claim absolute objectivity. Photography is interpreted through individual experience, knowledge and visual sensitivity.
The aim is to make that perspective clear, consistent and accountable.
LOOK CAREFULLY.
CHOOSE INDEPENDENTLY.
REMOVE THE NOISE.
