ROBERTO CORINALDESI | SOULIGHT
The human figure becomes a measure of architectural scale, revealing the distance between presence and absence.
Anthropometry of the Void explores the relationship between the human figure and the structures that surround it. Elliptical roofs, stadium seating, concrete cantilevers and curved colonnades establish spaces of immense scale in which the human presence becomes almost incidental.
The figures appear small, turned away or partially concealed. Rather than functioning as individual portraits, they become points of reference through which architecture is measured and perceived.
Built through subtraction and geometric composition, the series reduces each scene to essential elements: a line, a curve, an opening, an expanse of empty space. Monochrome removes incidental detail, allowing light, mass and scale to define the image.
Architecture is no longer simply a backdrop. It becomes an active presence that frames, constrains or nearly dissolves the figure within it. What remains is a quiet tension between the human measure and the void surrounding it.
Roberto Corinaldesi is an Italian fine art photographer based in Rome, working under the creative name SOULIGHT. His photographs are built through subtraction: a few geometric elements and a solitary figure set against an architecture that frames, compresses or dissolves it. Threshold, identity and invisibility recur throughout his work. Since 2017 he has been recognised in international awards, including Gold at the Tokyo International Foto Awards (Architecture, 2020), the National Award for Italy at the Sony World Photography Awards (2020), and an Honorable Mention at the Minimalist Photography Awards 2026 for Anthropometry of the Void. He is also a composer and teaches music.
